Biography

Yan Jun plays improvised music and makes field recording. His works involve in electronics, feedback, site-specific performance/installation, noise and organizing shows. His feedback improvisation set always follows the unstable relationship between microphones, speakers, the space and his body movement. He often uses feedback noise between speakers and the space to create subtle and unstable sound, which was influenced by his body movement and even the audiences’. Born in Lanzhou in 1973, Yan Jun is based in Beijing. He is a member of FEN (FarEastNetwork), Tea Rockers Quintet and Impro Committee. He has toured in US, Australia, Europe and Asia and often plays in audiences’ living rooms, using the specific space and objects as instruments (Living Room Tour project). His Micro Feedback project is a headphone hypnotizing set for small audience. He has been presented at Shanghai Biennale and received an honorary mention by Ars Electronica (Linz). As a writer he has published 6 books of essay collection in Chinese, one translation in French and one poetry collection translation in English. As a poet he has attended in Rotterdam International Poetry Festival and Berlin International Poetry Festival. He is the founder of Sub Jam label/organization.
