Biography

Since 2007, the Canberra outfift Spartak - led by Shoeb Ahmad and Evan Dorrian - have released three unique albums of improvised glitch punk on labels such as Low Point and New Weird Australia, while performing around the country and taking in tours of Singapore, Malaysia and Japan alongside the likes of My Disco, Thomas William, Andrew Pekler, Lucky Dragons, Cuushe, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Minamo, Mono/Poly, Shigeto, Gold Panda, Harmonic 313, Outer Space, Oval and Container. Becoming a trio with the addition of Matt Lustri and joined on occasion by Canberra electronic popster Raus live and in the studio, they have spent the last year and a half honing their unique brand of forward thinking minimal electronics towards a more song based direction, the first results of which was released as their impressive single Catch/Control through local label hellosQuare. Their performances bring a touch of DIY action with free-flowing reproductions of their studio creations with analog machines, live instrumentation and programmed rhythms that leaves audiences engaged in a hypnotic state whenever they play. Having spent 2013 recording and rehearsing new material for their upcoming release Five Points on Sydney indie-electronic label Feral Media alongside playing shows in and out of Australia, 2014 is the start of Spartak's bright, new second phase.
