If it feels like August is the unofficial "Singapore Drum & Bass Month", that's because it kinda is! From a feature on the genre's storied history in Singapore on VICE to events such as Sub City at kult kafe and Icicle at Canvas - starving Lion City junglists have certainly had plenty to feast on over the last few weeks.
And its not over yet, folks! The grand finale comes in the form of the return of one of Singapore's oldest drum & bass institutions - Subvert Sessions. Headed up by veteran selector Zul Othman, Subvert has been an enduring figure in the local scene for almost two decades now, best known through his high-profile gigs or via his popular podcasts.
This coming Friday, Subvert Sessions returns "with another night of funky shenanigans at the best boogie spots in town" - Blu Jaz Cafe. Featuring a solid lineup made up of Zul (naturally), Aresha, Phyla Digital's Harv, Prema and Revision Music's Senja (aka Nez), this night should be a great mix of beats, juke, jungle and beyond.
