'Innermission' is the new single by homegrown rapper Nikhil Senan via Umami Records. Though under two minutes, the lush, sax-suffused song is a vehicle for soul-searching, for an interrogation of the self wherein tough questions are asked about the Things That Matter.
Verbose flows are a tricky proposition. But Senan's delivery here is nimble and confident. Coming from him, the bar-upon-bar mode of delivery doesn't feel like a tired deluge of words but like an unspooling of consciousness where the personal and the metaphysical intertwine, problematise each other and, ultimately, exhort him for resolution.
One more thing: The production, helmed by Nicco Homaili and Luke Foo, is more an end then merely a means to it.
