Kwago has teamed up with Warehouse Eight to build a new book bar inside the La Fuerza compound. A platform for authentic and alternative learning, Book Bar at The Warehouse will serve as a venue for the local small and specialty press community to showcase and sell their works.
Kwago is not only a bookstore, it’s an alternative learning platform. The bookstore is there to help sustain the independent press community, so they can make more weird, unpopular stuff, and afford to quit their full-time corporate jobs even if only a few people read and appreciate what they make."
The new book bar will be located on the lower level of Warehouse Eight and will be co-designed by artist Jem Magbanua. The bar will offer fiction-inspired drinks developed with the help of YDG Coffee founder Marco Tarog and Matthew Carpio. be
Literature, coffee and a good conversation—this is what the book bar offers in three words.”
- Czyka Tumaliuan Komura, co-founder and owner of Kwago
To help in launching the book bar this year, Tumaliuan shares that Warehouse Eight offered to help and is co-organizing a two-day fundraising gathering at the Warehouse on January 27 and 28, from 1 PM to 9 PM.
Stripped-down performances by Jorge Wieneke, Skymarines, Mariah Yonic, Joee and I, and more are happening on the 28th.
All sales from the bar and store will directly fund the construction of the book bar. Guests can freely donate furniture, money, artworks, zines, books, and other things that can be used and repurposed for the book bar.
Entrance is free.
